About BCMEA
Bucks County Music Educators Association (BCMEA.) was started as a formal organization in 1950 by a group of music teacher administrators. As our by-laws state, BCMEA is "for the betterment of school music." All schools and music students in Bucks County are invited to be involved in our yearly auditioned festival. Originally, only students in grades 9-12 participated in Band, Orchestra or Choir. Over the years, the festival has expanded from three to six different ensembles. Now we also have Middle School Band, Middle School Choir and Middle School String Ensemble. BCMEA also sponsors a "String Day" where string students are invited to participate in a sight-reading day. Thousands of students in grades 5-8 have been able to enjoy learning with a different conductor at this yearly event. In the year 2000, BCMEA created a website in order to post valuable information about our organization. We have been fortunate enough to have the same webmaster who makes sure all the information is accurate and up-to-date. BCMEA has been a solid foundation for music teachers to learn from and support each other in our profession. Over seventy-two years, there have been various workshops and in-service events. There are many music teachers in Bucks County that participated in the BCMEA festival when they were students. Now, along with their students, they get to "give back" by being participators and officers in BCMEA.
